the new look for post.thing.net

categories:

post.thing.net is going through a Spring freshening up. We have a new space at the Clocktower at 108 Leonard street. Ardis Kadiu will be working with Darrel on administration of the server and there are plans afoot to redesign the front page of post.thing.net. Wolfgang has suggested a format similar to the Documenta 12 site. The details for the left column index and the sub-categories need to be worked out. Your critiques and suggestion would help. One of the points is that names for contributions to post.thing.net should be changed from blogs to something else.

We are asking for thing members to make suggestions or come up with alternatives.

samples -- in all options:

- i am indeed thinking about a kind of dirty image that you represented in the pencilled text and/or cutout text blocks. perhaps i am overly considering a kind of regressive modernism, but it is my intuition that tells me so...

- as with you, i look to design the front page and then simplify the following text pages.

- i worry from your previous comments that you are concerned about the amount of effort that can be sustained, but i always worry for this myself, and so if the product is something that i can stand behind, the effort is only a symptom of the joy. no worry. beyond that, i think to begin monthly (which may require a start up period with the desire to produce a bi-monthly.) when we think of the nature of this kind of marketing, yes, the front page again necessitates added effort, where the following apges should be more formulaic.

like your cutout text but where colour fields can already contain lead text content and navigation, plus (and i know more work but) changing provocative imagery.like your cutout text but where colour fields can already contain lead text content and navigation, plus (and i know more work but) changing provocative imagery.

retro web 1.0

quiet shocked how little response arrives here.

yet, very happy to hear that the satellite office materializes (again) in downtown!!

gh+ darrel to you I aready bitched about Drupal a while back, and yes, I am totally up for a simple dirty design that may could revive the very first and legendary thing design.

After all, THE THING title WAS inspired by a movie poster. However, I don't know if we should go as retro as a 50s style, 1993, Web 1.0 would do for me..

documenta 11 looks good but is there anything special, except that it is a very minimal design with lots of breathing space?!?
