Aug.22nd site visit - dumbo

Meeting notes with Chris Herbeck from d.a.c

I met with Chris Herbeck and Emily Hunt at the Dumbo Arts Center. We then went to look at the projection site.

They don’t supply anything. We will need to get the projectors, players etc..

The site they favored is location #3 Under the Brooklyn Bridge. This is actually very cool. If you look at the photo there are the stairs that go up to the Brooklyn Bridge walkway on the right hand side. Opposite the projection site the is a D.O.T office. We asked if they could supply electricity. Dumbo Arts Center (Emily Hunt) is supposed to be contacting them and seeing if this is possible.

I asked about the Location 1. straight onto the side of the Manhattan Bridge.
Chris didn’t know if there was access to the loft space for projection. I suggested that they try and secure that space as a backup in case the D.O.T could not provide electricity. We need to check back with them in a week to see about the location and the electricity.

Chris Harbeck said he would provide a letter of agreement inviting us to the festival.

I asked about parking and they said they will reserve a space. I am assuming that I will be transporting the equipment to the site. I asked if the have anyplace we can store the equipment and they said maybe but I am assuming we will need to break down the set-up every day and take it home.

Chris is generally even tempered. He was a bit nervous about the final form of the piece because it wasn’t fixed. I had to assure them that we knew what we were doing. I also mentioned that the Whitney had asked us for proposals for the Spring. I said that Artists Meeting will start the season at DUMBO and finish it at the Whitney High Line site. That seemed to calm them down a bit.

I asked if we could use a space for a rehearsal run through a week before the festival. They suggested the video dumbo site. That would be cool if we need to rehearse.
