October 9th meeting minutes

October 10th, 2007 Artists Meeting – minutes

In attendance – James Andrews, Daniel Blochwitz, Bethany Fancher, G.H. Hovagimyan, Lara Star Martini. We welcomed Bethany to the group.

The discussion was about the next project and the Whitney Highline.

Ursula had suggested via email that everyone of the members curate or organize a “show” for the Highline. GH said that his meeting with David Little from the Whitney was about David’s Doctoral thesis http://post.thing.net/node/1561 concerning Colab, an artist group from the eighties. David then asked GH to propose project for the Whitney highline and extended the invitation to the Artists Meeting group. GH felt that A.M. should propose an updated version of COLAB style exhibitions for the Whitney Highline. With this in mind the group decided that everyone should come up with a one page proposal or abstract for the Whitney Highline that GH can collate in a folder and present to David. The discussion was that each member could ask the other members to participate in a project in some way. If a member has more than one proposal they are welcome to add as many as they have. The deadline is to have the proposals by the next meeting.

GH talked about putting up a photoblog using pixelpost software. Daniel said that he had used it for his blog http://borderblog.net The photoblog would be used for A.M. collective photos and documentation. This is in process.

After a group discussion about the next project GH suggested an Anti-Christmas show. Since there was no available space and no money to fund such an exhibition Daniel proposed a poster campaign. The idea is that each person in the group design a poster or post card or sheet of stickers that can be put on the web as a pdf. Anyone can then print out the posters. GH said he has plenty of server space and will set up the system so that AM has a poster site. Daniel has a friend who does this and he will check and see what the specs are to set this up.

GH suggested that each poster have an Artists Meeting logo. He also suggested that the group design a number of different logos to choose from so that each poster will be “branded’ with an AM logo.

logos manifestos nascent posters

"question structures"
"branded" by logos
"simple and direct"

"simultaneously engage"
"creative dialogue"

...sounds like ART.

Count me

in now after reading the manifesto & posts

and

for the next meeting about Highline and collaborating and
a "holiday" poster campaign
