there is a young artist, who paints black and white reproductions from artforum magazines
from the 60's and early 70's. when i met him, he told me he had no ironic or critical
intention at all. this was the art he really loved and admired. "the existential reality of that
was beyond me." i don't know if it is the truth of his time, but it is his truth, not lacking in
melancholy, perhaps. but whoever said art shouldn't be melancholy?

da gibt es diesen jungen künstler, der schwarz-weiss reproduktionen aus den artforum
ausgaben der 60iger und 70iger abmalt. als ich ihn traf, erzählte er mir, dass er keinerlei
ironische oder kritische absicht damit verbindet. es war einfach die kunst, die er wirklich
liebte und bewunderte. "die existenzielle realität dessen liegt vor meiner zeit." ich weiss
nicht ob das die wahrheit seiner zeit ist, aber es ist seine realität und sie entbehrt vielleicht
nicht einer gewissen melancholie. wer aber möchte behaupten, dass kunst nicht
melancholisch sein darf?
