Song of the Hua Mei

The hua mei, or bird with the beautiful brow, is a songbird imported to New York from China. The birds are kept in ornate bamboo cages. On sunny mornings, Chinese owners of the hua mei meet and take their birds out to sing, often in a group. Their songs pierce the sounds of traffic. This film was shot at De Salvio Park, Spring Street, Little Italy in September 2004. ps: turn up volume to hear what else is going on on the soundtrack.
