Joseph Nechvatal, in a solo show at Galerie Richard, is presenting a series of recent paintings on velvet titled prOtOcOls nOn (nO rules).

prOtOcOls nOn will take place from May 30th to June 25th in the Paris gallery at 74 rue de Turenne.

In lieu of vernissage, there will be a public drink in the gallery on Saturday June 7th (18-21hr)

prOtOcOls nOn is a show of eight lush velvety canvases that are formed from the artistic manipulation of intimate body imagery, processed through custom a-life software.
***
The idea behind prOtOcOls nOn poeticly links the most upper and lower human orifices to the inhuman cosmos. The paintings visually suggest that this includes the connecting of the open black universe with the pink velvety intimate openings to the human body in a spirit of imaginative audacity and erotic spirituality.

Influences on this show are Manuel da Landa’s book Philosophy and Simulation and Rahsaan Roland Kirk’s avant-garde saxophone music.
