Shelley Niro advances the discussion of culture and identity beyond the metanarrative of "the colonizer and colonized." For her show this November at UB Art Gallery, Shelley Niro will create and premiere a short site-specific film reconsidering University at Buffalo's Baird Point. Niro attended the Ontario College of Art in and earned her MFA from the University of Western Ontario in London. A resident of Brantford, Ontario, her work employs photography, painting and film and has been showcased at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in Lower Manhattan and at the 2003 Venice Biennale.
The artist will lecture on Monday, November 26 in the evening.
