FAIR HOURS

The NY Art Book Fair is FREE and open to the public.
Printed Matter, the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to publications made by artists, presents the fourth annual NY Art Book Fair, October 1 - 4 at P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, Long Island City, Queens.
The Fair hosts over 200 international presses, booksellers, antiquarian dealers, and independent artist/publishers presenting a diverse range of the best in contemporary art publications.
The Fair will occupy all three floors of P.S. 1 with exhibitors, special project rooms, and an exhibition of books, posters, and ephemera by Richard Prince - remarkable in scale, and perhaps an improbable partnership under other economic circumstances. It is an interesting move for P.S. 1, perhaps the kind of artist-driven, inclusive programming that P.S.1 will be doing in the post-Alanna era.
Featuring more than 200 exhibitors from 26 countries - roughly 60 more participants than in 2008 - the Fair has grown in scale while many other fairs seem to be scaling back.
Entire projects rooms will be transformed by artist-publishers Dexter Sinister; EAI, who will present "Free Trade," a screening on global exchange; Peres Projects/DADDY, presenting a solo exhibition of works by Bruce La Bruce in a blacked-out gallery; Dutch school Werkplaats Typografie and its entire student body who will conduct courses; and Gallery 360º from Tokyo will present a survey of Japanese Pop.
Also new to this year's Fair is The Classroom, a special programming series curated by David Senior (MoMA Library): three days of 45-min presentations by artist and publishers, including Bruce High Quality Foundation, Ugly Duckling Presse, Red76, Jennifer Sullivan, Haim Steinbach, and many others.
Printed Matter presents a special exhibition of books, posters, and ephemera by Richard Prince, curated by John McWhinnie, as well as screenings, book signings, and performances. Other events include the Contemporary Artists’ Books Conference, cosponsored with the Art Libraries Society of New York (ARLIS/NY); and The Classroom, a full-schedule of informal artist talks, performances, and screenings.
Philip Aarons, Chairman of the Board at Printed Matter, said: “Printed Matter's NY Art Book Fair re-establishes New York City as the heart of art publishing. This extraordinarily democratic and far-reaching project brings together ground-breaking and unique exhibitors, speakers, and events from twenty-one countries.”

Other participants include: artists Jacqueline Hassink and William E. Jones; publishers Paul Schiek (TBW Books), Stacy Wakefield Forte (Evil Twin Publications), and Gary Fogelson, Phil Lubliner and Soner Ön (The Holster). Updates will appear on the events page.
