“eminent domain, nyc” tour with Bettina Johae
- a road trip through Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn

A road trip through four of New York City’s boroughs investigating the use of eminent domain, for public and private use, throughout the city’s history. The sites of eminent domain range from the early condemnations for public parks and streets in the 19th century to the vast condemnations during the Robert Moses era for highways, railways, parks, office buildings, universities, cultural and convention centers, and public and private housing projects to contemporary sites, such as the New York Times building, the Atlantic Yards project, Willets Point, and the Columbia University expansion.

Among the sites driven-by and discussed on the trip are Central Park, Riverside Park and Flushing Meadows Corona Park; Robert Moses’ Cross-Bronx-Expressway (“Heartbreak Highway”) and the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, the World Trade Center site, the High Line, the Lincoln Center Complex, Pratt University, the New York Times building, several large private and public housing projects at the Lower East Side, the Upper West Site and in Harlem, as well as Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village, SPURA - an urban renewal area from 1965 in the Lower East Side, which remains partly vacant till today, and ongoing projects such as Atlantic Yards, Willoughby Square Park / Downtown Brooklyn, Willets Point, as well as the Penn Station and Columbia University expansion projects. The drive-by tour includes stops at selected sites and will last approximately 4 hours.

Seats are $125 per passenger. To reserve a seat for eminent domain, nyc Tour, contact Naomi Miller at tour@ironmaidenartisttours.com
