Ginger Island Project

The Ginger Island Project is presented by independent curator Liutauras Psibilskis and Performa 11. An exhibition portion of the project will take place at the Emily Harvey Foundation (537 Broadway) The exhibition will show works directly or indirectly relating to Fluxus artists' myth-ridden trip to Ginger Island, in the British Virgin Islands, where they were planning to establish an artist colony before encountering poisonous trees among other hazardous surprises that the island had in store.

The artists featured in the show are Amy Granat, Sissel Kardel, Milan Knížák, George Maciunas, Jonas Mekas, Lisa Oppenheim, Jeffrey Perkins, Michael David Quattlebaum Jr. and Flora Wiegmann. There will be performances by Michael David Quattlebaum Jr. and Amy Granat with Flora Wiegmann at the opening reception, taking place Saturday, November 12 at the Emily Harvey Foundation from 5 - 9 pm. The show will run from November 12 - 26.

The other components of the Ginger Island Project are a party with sound projects and film screenings at Red Egg (202 Centre Street) taking place Friday, November 11 from 11 pm - 2 am, and the screening of videos by Jonas Mekas and Milan Milan Knížák at the Storefront for Art and Architecture (97 Kenmare Street) on view from November 11 - 13. There will be a closing reception at the Storefront for Art & Architecture on Sunday, November 13 from 6 - 10 pm.
