Palimpsest Odyssey

The Odyssey is credited to Greek poet Homer. However, Homer is a shadowy figure, and some scholars doubt that he ever existed. They suggest that The Odyssey is woven together by generations of storytellers.
One of my favorite parts of The Odyssey is where Odysseus and his crew reach a harbor at the western edge of the world. Odysseus makes sacrifices to the dead and summons the spirit of the prophet Tiresias to advise him (a blind prophet famous for clairvoyance and for being transformed into a woman for seven years).
