James Kalm had been following the work of both William Graef and Rick Prol for years. Recently the stars aligned and both these midcareer artists had shows featuring some of their recent works. Graef pursues a type of Conceptual Art employing nostalgia, the myth of the great American road trip, and a longing for the simpler days of childhood. Looking through the lens of nearly 25 years, the East Village scene is finally beginning to be "re-contextualized". Rick Prol returns to his old studio space in the gentrified neighborhood to present new works that look both back and ahead to a commitment to Expressionistic painting.
