The Future Was Then [PART2]
Regurgitating Histories

Please join us in the SCOPE BASEL VIP Lounge to celebrate Perpetual Art
Machine's first show in the elite fine art landscape of Basel
Switzerland and to commemorate the video art legend Nam June Paik. Paik
was credited over thirty years ago with coining the phrase “The future
is now”.  [PAM] asks what that means today in our rapidly changing
world by re-presenting an ambitious program of five specially curated
video projects originally organized for Scope New York 2008 by Jarrett
Gregory, Robert Adanto, Yiannis Colakides and Helene Black, Andrew
Erdos in addition to the newest incarnation of the [PAM] installation
and a specially curated section by [PAM] founders Chris Borkowsky,
Raphaele Shirley and Lee Wells.

Special thanks to Scope Art Fairs, NeME.org, and IFAC.

"PRESENT" exhibition opens April 9 NYC, HP Garcia Gallery

PRESENT samples different models and modes of perception and distance, evoking presence in the sense of “reentry” into the fugitive "now" – the critical pivot of point of view, of locality and physical or geographic location, the limits of territory, the infinity of movement.

Soapbox Event at Federal Hall National Memorial Participatory performance reinventing forms of free speech

Location: Federal Hall National Memorial
26 Wall Street, New York City

Date: April 5, 2008

Time: 2:00–5:00 PM

SOAPBOX (n): a post upon which people stand and give their opinions on a topic, sometimes in quite emphatic terms.

Soapbox Event is a participatory performance created by Pia Lindman. Participants are given one soapbox each, which entitles them to one minute of free speech. They may form coalitions and stack their boxes together to obtain greater spatial presence and talk time. The spokesperson of a coalition may speak for as many minutes as there are stacked boxes. As the event evolves, boxes begin to express changing rhetorical configurations in sculptural forms.
