Ward Shelley Who Invented the Avant-Garde and other half truths at PIEROGI

Is there such a thing as "Meta-Art"? Ward Shelley delves into the aestheticization of art history, mapping movements and individuals from art and pop cultural history. Despite his neutral approach, these works tend to show how the narrative is shaped, bent and fitted.

James Kalm catches up with conceptual artist Ward Shelley on the closing day of his exhibition “Who Invented the Avant-Garde and other half truths”.

"PRESENT" exhibition opens April 9 NYC, HP Garcia Gallery

PRESENT samples different models and modes of perception and distance, evoking presence in the sense of “reentry” into the fugitive "now" – the critical pivot of point of view, of locality and physical or geographic location, the limits of territory, the infinity of movement.

Together in Death, with Curry

I arrive at the Zwirner Gallery’s double show of Rirkrit Tiravanija and Gordon Matta-Clark, rolling my bicycle up to the front of the kitchen and locking it before the window-like openings. I enter the dumpster with the maze built inside it. With its back panel open, the dumpster is the major opening of the double installation to the street.
