James Kalm returns to the scene of the crime. After being removed from the press list for the 2008 Biennial, and the subsequent getting busted by security and recording of that show on the down low, it seems the Whitney has decided to include the "Kalm Report" as a reputable member of the press for 2010's edition. This exhibition, curated by Francesco Bonami and Gary Carrion-Murayari, is touted as a national cross section of the most important and historical art produced during the past two years. Part I features the introduction by Adam Weinberg, and a walk through tour of the fourth floor.
December 13, 2009. Duff Schweninger created the video WILLOUGHBY IN HIS OWN WORDS: A MEMORIAL TRIBUTE for Willoughby Sharp's Memorial at the Guggenheim Museum back in October. For those who did not attend, or who wish to reference the video again, it was just uploaded to Sharpville, and hence posted here. The first anniversary of his passing is this week.
WILLOUGHBY SHARP R.I.P.
January 23, 1936 – December 17, 2008
James Kalm makes a must see stop for this double bill during the 2009 season opening night in Chelsea. Both Kara Walker and Mark Bradford have gained recognition for their work with paper, cut silhouettes for the former and grand scaled collage for the latter. Walker weaves a narrative derived from the history of slavery and repression, while Bradford imbues his work with an abject elegance capturing the essence and life of contemporary urban neighborhoods. Includes an interview with Kara Walker discussing her views on the painterly direction of some recent work.

Tabloid Tells Truth About Climate Change and How It Will Affect City, World
With the summer doldrums in full effect, the market downturn still wreaking havoc and most of the city’s cognoscenti sipping Mojitos in the Hamptons, I thought it might be a good time to take a brief review of what’s happening with the art publishing industry. Is art criticism printed on paper an anachronism? What will replace it? This is a repost of a piece that appeared in the May issue of the Brooklyn Rail.
