There’s a terrific discussion on http://post.thing.net concerning legacy conceptual art. Look though the comments section on the right. In particular Joseph Nechvatal and Blackhawk have been adding very incisive texts and commentary.

Information theory is constantly butting up against property rights. That was the premise behind Faux Conceptual Art http://www.artnetweb.com/projects/fauxcon/home.html

"Splotches" (2005)"Splotches" (2005)

My relationship to LeWitt's work is a bit unusual. When I was coming up I detested him, along w/ the other Late Minimalists -- or so was he contextually positioned & critically aspected. At that time, the work seemed yet another desperate attempt by one of that flock to reify a movement which had become completely moribund. However as time went by & LeWitt's work developed I found my view changing. -- & do we privilege work which we came to appreciate over time after having responded negatively initially? Perhaps we do, & perhaps we should, as such work has in a sense fought for our appreciaton.

This work is a giant Xerox of the price list for Joseph Kosuth’s show at Leo Castelli Gallery in 1993. It’s a bit of an anthropological artifact. Leo Castelli is dead and the gallery is no longer open.

The work functions as a perfect market indicator. It strips the art down to it’s most basic which is a brand name (Joseph Kosuth) the description of the work, and its' price. Kosuth himself titled the series, the Thing-in-itself is found in its Truth through the loss of its immediacy I, II, III, IV, etc…

The Threats to Kathy Sierra

About Kathy Sierra's blog death threats, it highlights one of my problems with blogs and my overall lack of surprise about the matter.

Blogs, in and of themselves have fewer homeostatic mechanisms than forums or listservs. They are primarily a voluntary push medium with the ability to respond. I have never felt like I have been part of a conversation as part of a blog; only as a journalist or lecturer. They have never made me feel "part" of anything, they have only made me feel part of an audience, and it is this belonging that is special to networked conversation.
